Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 5 February 2019: In line with the AU theme of 2019, the Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology hosted a high level dialogue on protection of education in humanitarian settings. The meeting was organised by the Education Division, and the AU Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in partnership with Save the Children International, with support from Political Affairs Department and the Embassy of Norway.
The objectives of the meeting were to improve participants’ understanding of impacts of humanitarian situations on education, especially for girls and women, and the role of education in peace building; share experiences among AU Members States and non-State actors policy frameworks and practice in protecting education during humanitarian situations through implementation of the Safe School Declaration and Guidelines, among other humanitarian instruments; and strengthen commitment on specific measures to protect girls, women and boys in education systems under all circumstances.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 25 January 2019: The African Union Commission (AUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Africa Early Childhood Network (AfECN) which sets out the framework for cooperation in order to ensure closer collaboration and exchange of information between AUC and AfECN, in a manner that creates synergistic relationships and partnerships situating Early Childhood Education and Development within the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25).

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, January 17 2019: The AUC Department of Human resources, Science and technology held a meeting with a high level team of officials from the government of Botswana, to start preparations towards the second Innovating Education in Africa Expo (IEA 2019). The two-day workshop is the first in a series of workshops in enhancing collaboration between the African Union Commission and the government of Botswana in preparation for the 2nd Innovating Education in Africa Expo, which will be hosted by the Republic of Botswana in August, 2019.

Addis Ababa, December 13 2018- The Education Division of the Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST) of African Union Commission held a Technical Consultation Workshop on establishment of Pan-African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency at the Headquarters of the African Union Commission in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.
The principal objective of the workshop was to propose modalities of establishment and operationalization of the Pan African Accreditation Agency, as called for by the AU Assembly. Higher Education agencies working on Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Member States, regional and continental institutions shared experiences on good practices from which lessons can be distilled towards harmonization at regional and continental levels, and to create basis for establishing a Continental Accreditation Agency.
